AOMS Offshore/Remote Personnel are maintained at an optimal operational readiness through advanced certifications and annual Competency Assurance programs. All Offshore/Remote Personnel are required to complete recertification every 2 years in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and International Trauma Life Support (ITLS). Although these certifications are valid for three years, AOMS requires staff re-certify every 2 years.
In addition to this, AOMS requires all staff to complete our annual Competency Assurance Program. This program was developed in house with the assistance of outside health care consultants and it remains the only one of its kind in the region. The program includes 40 hours of course material review including lectures, research papers and articles covering advanced practice skills, occupational medicine, developing trends, and forward thinking ideas in medicine. This portion of the program is self-paced and requires personnel to log into our portal to access reading material and complete tests. Additionally, all personnel from across the country are brought to our head office once a year for an intensive two-day training and demonstration session, which includes hands on practice, health assessments, and advanced practice and protocol techniques. Each person is evaluated and made aware of areas in which there are opportunities for improvements.
